Deepfakes begone; US government rolls out new detection platform for generative AI

IT’S AN EAR-NIST ATTEMPT
NIST launches platform to detect generative AI
NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) is a US government agency that develops and tests new tech.
They just rolled out NIST GenAI - a tool to detect AI generated deep-fake content.
NIST is launching a pilot to develop their AI detectors for written content. The problem is, AI generation is getting so good each day that it’s hard to tell what’s real.
A study showed that there was an increase of a whopping 900% in deepfake creation this year. NIST's initiative is both timely and crucial.
Let’s just hope it works 🤞
WHY ZUCK? JUST WHY?
Instagram experiments with turning creators into AI chatbots, to talk to followers
Turning Scarlet Johansson into your AI girlfriend isn’t so far off anymore.
Instagram is allowing users to talk to AI-generated “Creator bots” of their favourite IG creators.
IG users will be able to “have full convos” to their favourite creators via new AI-generated “creator bots”
IG will train these AI-generated creator bots based off a creator’s posts, comments, messages, reels and audio - copying their tone & messaging style.
Users will be able to DM these bots, as if they were talking to the real person
My hunch is Meta is looking to mirror the success of Character AI which has ballooned to 1.7M installs in their first week of release. But instead of talking to Socrates, you could chat up the much-more attractive Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Gosling.
Takeaway: Users that subscribe and pay for a Creator will likely be able to use this feature, meaning new ways Creators can monetize off their “content” - if this makes it out of beta.
UBER SWEATS, ELON WINS
Elon gets approval for Full Self-Driving Teslas in China
Despite the complete wreck that is the Cybertruck, China is turning a blind eye and letting Elon test fully-autonomous driving cars in China.
This is a huge leap forward for Tesla - who has found it difficult to test these cars in the US due to safety & ethical concerns, despite that fact that self-driving cars are ~6.8 times safer than my parents driving.
If Elon can successfully use China to make the case for Full Self-Driving cars, this could open his long-awaited plans for a robotaxi business, and possibly bring that back to the US to take on Uber.
